When Cheryl, “CJ,” discovered the beauty, transparency, freedom, and excitement of watercolor, it became her primary media. Color is an important part of her work, and she often uses vibrant colors. She also uses a variety of textural surfaces, handmade papers, fabrics, and collage.
Her desire to create is constant. Sometimes she does a realistic portrait of a subject, but often she prefers to do an expressionistic representation. Painting in a series is a way for her to learn about a subject. Her “Cats in the Garden” series showed the spirit of Cat in fresh and whimsical ways.
She uses her camera frequently to capture the moment. Her remarkable cats continually get into comical positions or unusual situations. She celebrates the unexpected.
